The List

May 12th, 2011

It’s that time again…..Scholarship announcements. Two years ago I felt pretty sorry for myself my son when his name wasn’t on the list. It stung worse than I can describe. He worked hard all through HS and yet here was this list full of names…..but not his! I’ll be honest, I was TICKED!!!

It took a while for me to move on. Don’t get me wrong, I was proud of all who won college money. But, it appeared that the same few students won everything. Come on, share the love. The part that made me feel so frustrated was that he was #21 out of 460+ kids! Uhhm, really? The message he and many like him received is work hard all through HS and do your best but don’t hope for any recognition for it.

He was just like everyone else who walked the halls even though he took all AP classes and College Bound Honors. Very sad.

Today the 2011 scholarship list has been placed in the window for the whole school to see. Once again, disappointment! Just like with Gavin, I felt that sting of sadness. But, she’s not the only one left off the list. I noticed several of her very deserving friends weren’t listed as well. Still, it’s hard to swallow.

As I came back to my classroom with my head hung low….I thought about how God had taken care of Gavin and his college needs. He’s wasn’t caught off guard by this news. He’s known all along that Ally wouldn’t get any local scholarship funds. It’s just shocking to me and will be to her. πŸ™

I opened my desk drawer and noticed a sticky note pushed way back. God pretty much hand delivered it to me. {Thank you Lord}

Amen to that!

God has a plan. I don’t want anything that He doesn’t deem mine (or theirs). Do you?

Wordless Wednesday

Photobucket

I’m new to Flip Flops & Pearls blog. But I pretty much LOVE it!! I wish we lived closer….cause I know we’d be fast friends Daphne! Today I’m playing along with her Wordless Wednesday link-up.

I know this is supposed to just be a photo. But, I have to share about it. I made this for Ally’s 18th birthday in March. It’s full of her favorite things. Candy and giftcards to shop at all her fave stores! After I put it together, I took a few pictures of it to remember it by. The day before her birthday, she was playing with my camera and found the pictures of her surprise! She was crushed and needless to say, so was I.

It was meant to be a surprise! Darn digital cameras! πŸ˜‰

Second Best

May 10th, 2011

One of these days……

I’m going to figure out how to be content and leave well enough alone. I think I’ve mentioned a time or twenty about the 2nd dress we ordered for prom. Just like we laughingly joked, it arrived yesterday…..the Monday after the prom! Oh the irony!

It was a complete letdown. I regret even chasing the dream that it could be more beautiful than what Ally wore on Saturday. The real prom dress looked amazing and was of very high quality. All you had to do was look at it and you could see….it was expensive and classy! Dress #2, cheap and shabby….sort of like a costume. Blek!

The lesson for me is to stop dreaming of better. Find what you like and be satisfied. Oh and of course make GOOD decisions in the first place. I’m not just talking about buying fancy dresses either. I’m thinking about many life decisions. Stop searching for the best and trust God to do His work.

He knows what he’s doing. Me, I’m just winging it most days…

I saw this on another blog yesterday and had to share it. It brings a bit of perspective to my life and I bet it will yours too.

Hearts Are Wild

May 8th, 2011

When you’re a teenager, even more so. That was the 2011 Prom theme for our HS. Both my girls attended and had a fantastic night. I’m very proud of them and hope they know it! As we wind down the last few busy weeks of school…..I’m reflecting on the blessing it is to be a mom!

Even with all the chaos and stress that goes with the title. I’m more thankful to be a mother than I can say. God blessed me with three beautiful, strong and amazing children. I feel privileged that I’ve had any part in who they are today.

Next week is another whirlwind event. Senior trip starts on Friday. I’m looking forward to spending the weekend in Gatlinburg, TN. Especially with my girl. Enjoy your Monday.

I’m off to complete a pile of tasks for the big event. I can’t wait to see both my beautiful girls all gussied up for their fun night!

Toodle Loo!

Oh and GOOD NEWS!!!

Hubby found and purchased a car!

Sweet, huh?

The Train Has Left The Station

May 5th, 2011

At 6:00am yesterday, we hugged our sweetboy and his grandparents “Goodbye” as they boarded Amtrak. We woke up at 3:00am and began the journey to Indy scrunched together in my in-laws little car. Cozy! The trip, for them….is a long one. Like, Wednesday-Friday long. Wanna ride a train that long? Me either. πŸ˜‰

I’m not sure if I mentioned 6am…..Oh I kid! Did you know that REAL STORES are not open that early in the morning? So, there we were in one of my favorite shopping cities in the world and it was still dark outside. Boo! Oh and everything we wanted to do couldn’t be done until 10am. Darn retail working world! GET OUT OF BED for goodness sakes!!

~We planned to look at (and BUY) a car for hubby. (opened at 10am)
~We needed to shop for prom shoes. (uhh, yea…10am)
~We were on the hunt for ME something to wear to prom. (hello, is it 10am yet?)

So, we did what any smart person would do that’s up too early to do anything else….we went for breakfast! Yum! We stopped at a place called Flap Jacks and it was perfect. I base all my love on a place to eat if they serve flavored coffee creamers or not. Jackpot, FlapJacks leaves a big basket full of different choices right on your table!! The food was great too.

Then we received a text message from the train hobo’s. They had traveled a whopping hour or so but had collided with a motorcycle. They were stopped for several hours waiting on the investigation and for Amtrak to send a new crew. The crew involved in the accident had to stay because they were witnesses. The accident involved a fatality (praying for the victim’s family). Very sad start to an exciting trip out west.

After breakfast, we headed to look at cars. We test drove two really nice choices but couldn’t make a deal (Gee, are we the only people out there trying to get a bargain?). I’m beginning to think we will never find a good car. Discouraged! It stinks having such a puny amount $$ to work with!

By 4:30pm, we were back home and beyond exhausted. Both girls were home and cuddled up on our bed watching tv. We felt like we’d been gone for days. After I took a shower, I literally fell into bed. Can you tell I’m not used to VERY EARLY MORNINGS?

We spoke with the travelers at about 9pm and they were having dinner. After the accident situation, they barely made their connection train in Chicago. An attendant met them at the gate and picked them up in order to get them to the next train. They sat down in their seats and the train took off. Whew! Just made it.

I can’t wait to hear more trip stories. Only another day or so to go…

PS
Prom stuff is finally coming together well. NO, the other dress didn’t arrive. We’re over it. Moving forward with the other one. Looking forward to posting all the pictures soon!
