I’ve done a little snooping around and I think I’ve found a few that someone like me might want to add to their arsenal for this Christmas. Hope you find something amazing!

Love What You Wear

Friday, May 17th, 2013

I could not be more flattered than when someone compliments me on an outfit.  Seriously, at my age?  I'm thrilled to hear friends & even strangers say they love what I'm wearing!  Yesterday, I wore a simple lacy dress that cost me a whopping $29 dollars(maybe) and I bet you that I had more than 25 compliments.  Everywhere I went…someone said, "I love your dress!".  By the end of the day, I was thinking to myself, "Wow, this is a great dress!".

The truth about the clothes I wear is simple — > ON SALE!

I have always been pretty fashion conscious.  I never want to look dorky (even though I HAVE) or out of style.  However, I'm not one to follow trends necessarily either.  I really just BUY WHAT I LOVE!  If I see something that is a must-have and looks flattering on me…I try my best to find it on sale or at a better price.  Usually, I do.  If not, it wasn't that important anyway.

My daughters do the same thing when shopping.  They first look over what's popular and cute then cut to the clearance rack for the real bargains.  I can't stress enough how important it is to shop in the right places.  TJ Maxx, Dillards, Francescas….Forever 21 (carefully, want to be age appropriate) and Banana Republic.  These are some of my favorite places to find real bargains and simple styles that fit my personality.  I confess, I love 2nd hand stores too.  There IS NOTHING wrong with buying refurbed clothes & stuff.  Matter of fact, it is the greatest way to get the things you LOVE but can't really afford paying the full price/retail!

In all honesty, I'm not doing anything special.  Everyone I know is looking for a bargain and most everyone I know wants to look good.

Here are a few of my shopping rules — just the basics, y'all!

1)  Only buy what I need & love.  Ever.

2)  Shop at frugal stores that offer great sales & clearance.

3)  Scour the clearance & sale racks thoroughly.

4)  Pick unique items.  Dresses are a great way to look good, easily.

5)  WEAR WHAT I LOVE!  Too many times, we save lovely things for "special" occasions.  Don't do that!  Wear it!

6)  Shop often.  Don't buy often, but look for what's out there and be price smart.

7)  Buy items that can go with stuff I already have.  Layering and mix-n-match is the way to go.

8)  Take back what doesn't work.  If I get home and it shows a flaw that I despise or feels itchy….I return it!

9)  Find what flatters the most.  Don't chase trends.  Wear what makes you look fabulous.  I don't look right in turtlenecks or certain collared shirts.  So, I avoid them!

10)  Stick to certain colors.  I can't get enough white, cream or taupe.  I love them and they love me back.  Every single time I wear those colors, I receive compliments.  Figure out what makes you shine!

I love clothes but I love good bargains even better.  I'm a firm believer that everyone can look good and afford it.  Some people pride themselves on wearing the most expensive or popular clothing, and throwing around fancy names.  I'm not into that so much.  If I can find good looking & affordable, so can you!  Get out there…and shop, friends!

It’s BLACK out there!

Friday, November 26th, 2010

I’ve never been a fan of shopping after Thanksgiving! I mean, seriously? Who wants to? Oh wait, lots of folks…..just turn on the news and see. Crowds of pushy shoppers cram their way through the freshly opened doors of stores all over the country. It’s as if you don’t shop today….all the STUFF will be goooooone, forever!

That could be a good thing. I think. What about you?

I didn’t grow up with this shopping tradition. My family always decorated our house for Christmas after Thanksgiving. It never crossed our radar to go out at the crack of dawn….which by the way, is it just me or do they switch these times up to as soon as you put the turkey in the fridge the stores OPEN? It’s like a contest. I think I’ve made my point. I’m not in to win.

Why?

1–I hate crowds! Despise the whole scene. I like people, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t like to shop in complete armored aggressive mode. Not my thing!
2–The deals, really? This just baffles me. While I bet there are some sweet prices on some cool stuff. Is it really that good? The entire month of December is full of sweet deals. I never pay full price for anything I buy…ever!
3–No sleep! I’m a wimp when it comes to missing my rest. I feel horrible, therefore….I will end up treating people awful! Not a good trade-off if you ask me. There is no deal worth missing sleep over unless it is FREE!!!
4–LONG LINES!! Oh no! I can’t even put down in words how that stresses me out! Let’s just say……I’m the most impatient chick on the earth when it comes to standing in a mile long line with crying kids and mean moms. Think: Do not sin in your anger!! Bad scene, people!

{What in tarnation?}

5–My money, gone! It’s no secret! My family budget is pretty much nada. Any extra moola we might have is a luxury at this point. Spending it on Christmas is going to have to be very well thought out. Who can do that in the BF frenzy? Not me. I’ll stick to lists and searching for the best deals on them. {Which I always seem to find}
6–Traffic! Gack! This runs neck and neck with the long lines and pushy fellow shoppers. HORRIBLE!! Not to mention, a tad dangerous. Wouldn’t that just be a great memory for your family….”Mom tragically killed in Black Friday shopping traffic pileup!”? Maybe that sounds a little over the top…but it could happen! Who wants people milling around at their funeral talking about how she had to get to Target for the great deal on 42″ flatscreen tv? Uhh, not me dude!

I can think of so many other things more worthy to do today. My son is home from college, the weather is cold and soon to be snowy and my husband is digging into house projects as I write. I want to go crawl up in the middle of all the fun to be found in staying home.

Good luck to you if you’re one of the many out shopping today. I hope it was worth it. 🙂
