Cookin it up…

November 4th, 2010

Because my house will be full the entire weekend….I’m heading to the grocery store this afternoon. I’ve been scavenging all over the internet for yummy recipes that will help me fill up hungry people. I’ve even forced my school BFF Betsy to hand over her “secret” Potato Soup recipe! I can’t wait to put that dude together. It’s delicious.

I love having a full house. But I hate not being prepared with good meals. I have a problem, I’m anal about most everything. I try and try to be normal. Yea, it never works. The weekend is full and so is my heart. Not only is it Ally’s choir show weekend….my baby, Gates is turning sweet 16 on Tuesday! πŸ˜‰

I love my life. I’m so very blessed!

If you have something fantastic to share that feeds hungry people and puts big smiles on their faces!

Please share!

Here are some of my ideas so far:

Spaghetti ( I know my guys love this )
Chicken Pot Pie
Betsy’s Potato Soup
Turnip Green Soup

I need stuff that will feed the multitudes. I can’t stand to see anyone go hungry! hehe

Senior year…..

November 3rd, 2010

This weekend is going to be sooooo exciting! I can’t wait. Something very cool is happening for Ally. It’s her big Touch of Class show. She will be the LAST one to sing her senior solo. That’s an awesome spot to be in. πŸ™‚

I’ll give you a little sneak peek of one of her costumes.

The theme for the night? Animated movies.

You are free….

Am I Dreaming?

November 1st, 2010

Do you ever confuse a dream with a calling? In ministry, we use the word calling to explain to “the world” how we ended up in that profession. We felt called. Honestly, I’m not sure who would just decide being a preacher or music minister would be a good job without a calling to do so. It’s not that kind of career. The hours are long, the needs are many and it cannot be done without the work of the Holy Spirit.

18 β€œThe Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free…” Luke 4:18

So what do you do…when you have a dream and you know God is part of it, but it dies?

I’m learning that I can’t confuse my dreams with His calling. I have to filter every little thing through Him and His will for me. I tend to be a big picture person that goes back and overthinks all the details….nearly killing the whole dream. Yea, I’m deeply talented like that. I guess the big job here is figuring out what it is that God wants from me.

A Dream

To write.
To speak to women.
To lead other’s to Him.

A Calling

To write.
To speak to whomever will listen.
To lead other’s to Him.

God,
I need your blessing. I know what I see as a dream and a calling are one in the same. But, how do I get there? Help me when I have doubts. Show me which way to go when I feel lost. I don’t want to live in constant confusion. There’s work to be done….and I don’t want to miss it.
Amen

Out of The Frying Pan, Into the Oven

October 30th, 2010

Last night was the BIG SHOW! After weeks of practice and hours of rushing from one activity to another….the girls have successfully gotten through their drama club show. It was really cool. Like last year, they had it set-up as a dessert/coffee bar evening. {Think dinner theatre} YUM!

Both girls had great roles. Gates played the Gretel Goodietwoshoes character who was on trial for the murder of Winifred Witch (poor girl). Ally was the insecure guidance counselor Mildred McTwee (who looked a tad frazzled, I might add). Every character cracked me up. The students were fantastic!

Way to go, JCHS Drama Club! And Mrs. Jarboe! (Such a creative lady)

Herlock Sholmes & Ms McTwee

Dad, Gates & Gavin

College dude sticks around & helps with LEAVES!! I <3 Indiana!

What a great weekend! Hope yours was even better! πŸ˜‰

GLEE YOU STINK! 30 ROCK YOU DO TOO!

October 27th, 2010

Last night we had a conversation over dinner. We’ve been die-hard GLEE fans from the get-go. But as the show has progressed……it’s taken the route of “how far can we push it” to the limit. Last week’s stint on praying to a grilled cheezus (am I the only one that picked up on making fun of the Christian faith?) was a peek at the double standard. It just drives me crazy how we are to be tolerant of other’s faith, sexual orientation etc. but the Christian faith is a big joke!

Tell me I’m not alone in this?

My hubby shared that our son has decided that he will not watch Community anymore. Another show we found somewhat mindlessly funny (again, NOT ANYMORE). Hollywood can’t stop themselves from bashing Christianity. You know it’s bad when young people are disgusted by it. So, imagine?

One of my favorite nights to watch tv is on Thursday. Last week was a bust! 30 Rock was absolutely ridiculous. The entire episode was Ess-Eee-Exx. I couldn’t believe how openly they joked about it. It made me furious AND I LOVE LIZ LEMON! But gross, gross and more gross! I decided then that if I NEVER saw another episode it would be too soon. Who needs that junk?

I’m thankful for a family that recognizes sin. Having teenagers is hard. Helping them navigate the trash the world throws at them is even harder. Parents, if you’re not talking with your kids about what’s acceptable and what’s not….LOOK OUT! They’ll be choosing for themselves. And by the looks of our society…..the choices are pretty lowdown. Don’t be afraid to point out untruths and yuck! God is holding you accountable.

Vicki Courtney is one of my favorite teen mom bloggers. Today she posted about this same topic! Please go and read what she has to say. I think you’ll find some truth! HERE

I love this new song/video! I hope you know….YOU ARE MORE!
