A man in the kitchen….

December 11th, 2009

We like eating in my family! It’s one of our favorite things to do. Food just makes us happy! Maybe you like it too. When I find something new to make….I can’t think of anything else until I do it! That was the case yesterday. I had been mulling over a snack mix recipe and a little emergency run to the bank put me in a position to grab the ingredients.

Oh did I just mention…..an emergency run to the bank? Yea, I did….didn’t I? All I can say is that I’m so glad the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. It’s heartwarming to know that of all the things we’ve passed along to our children…..”learning everything the hard way!!” is at the top of the list!

Long story short! Gavin’s car was towed at IU! Cost? $110! If I hadn’t gone RIGHT THEN? It would have been an additional $50! Yea, Merry Christmas! 🙂

Back to a man in the kitchen! Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Tyler Mote (my daughter’s TLF) came to town and when I couldn’t get anybody else to help….he volunteered to make the yummy snack mix! I love that boy! Not only was it EASY….but oh my goodness it was delicious! Scrumptious!

You must make it! Go…now….do it!

Vanilla Party Mix

10oz bag of litte pretzels
1 bag chocolate M & M’s
1 bag vanilla chips
5 C. Rice Chex cereal
3 T. oil

Mix together in a large bowl….pretzels, M & M’s, Rice chex. In microwave safe bowl….melt the vanilla chips with oil. Once melted, pour over goodies in the large bowl and mix. Pour onto a large pan covered with wax paper and let cool. Break apart and enjoy!

Tiger….not always a winner!

tiger

I have listened to the news….and seen his famous face plastered all over tv. His dirty laundry (and I’d say it’s pretty nasty) aired and shared for all the world to see. It’s heartbreaking! It’s devastating! Why would he do it? That is the question most of the world is asking. He seems to have it all, right?

Or does he?

For those of us who love and follow Jesus…..we see this lack of moral compass with hearts that hurt when someone falls short. It happens. People fail. They mess up! But for anyone in a committed marriage relationship…this can destroy! The Bible is clear regarding keeping the marriage bed pure! This one act can change the dynamics of a happy home in an instant.

It sickens me anytime I hear of it. Infidelity ruins lives. Satan pounces on every opportunity he can to wreck intact families. Tiger’s no exception. If he’s not a Christ follower…..he’s also not properly prepared for the battle. We all know that we must be fully armed for whatever attack comes our way. And they will come our way!

My prayer for Tiger Woods and his wife….is that someone will minister to them. Being wealthy beyond imagination cannot save a marriage and neither can fame. But meeting a Savior…..and finding the forgiveness that true repentance can bring can do more than just save a marriage. It can change eternity!

Tiger doesn’t need more judgement or scrutiny….he needs Jesus! He may win golf tournaments that pay him by the billions…..but his future is bleak if it doesn’t include God!

Lord,
Great things come out of the most shameful and painful of circumstances. Let this be one of those times. Open the heart of Tiger and his wife…..surround them with your Holy Spirit and make the changes that they need. Pruning can be very painful….but you’re the master gardener! Snip away what doesn’t fit and make it just right.
Amen

I owe ya!

“Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law”. Romans 13:8

Am I loving those around me the way God expects me to?  After the week I’ve just had…the answer is NO!  I’ve been extra sensitive and super stressed.  Two emotions that can wreck a loving spirit.  I’m working on it though.  With God’s help and gentle reminders….I will get back on track.

Lord,
Your love for me never changes. Thank you that I can rely on that.  Even when my feelings are all over the map….you still cherish and adore me.  Help me to love those in my path just like you do.  I don’t want to be in debt when it comes to sharing my love or yours!
Amen

I try

Some things just get me silly excited! Crazy things, really! Like every year….Focus on the Family has a Christmas contest giveaway. It’s an online game that you play along with to try to win cool prizes like an ipod! My family…really likes music and talk radio and preaching and podcasts….so a new fancy pants ipod would be so exciting!

However, this year….the FOTF website is a hot mess to navigate. I think I’m a little computer savvy when it comes to this sort of thing…but in this case, I’m not! Every single time I’ve gone online to enter I run into serious trouble. I can’t get anything to work on the contest page. It’s very complicated! I’ve actually only made it into a few of the contests. I end up leaving the site so frustrated! Total bummer! I want to win….but even more than that….I’d like a fighting chance to win and you can’t get that if you can’t get it to work!

I’m also registering over at Oprah for the 12 days of Christmas Give-O-way contest she has on her site. Yea….I know, GOOD LUCK! It’s still worth the try. It’s not like I’m gambling away my electric bill, right? It’s free. It’s fun! And who knows…maybe just maybe someone I know might be a winner!

Here are some other fun places to ENTER TO WIN great prizes! Have fun and good luck!

Everywhere I’ve turned lately….I seem to run right back into it. Blogging, reading and talking with friends….it’s a common theme. What is it? It’s insecurity! Why is it everywhere? I don’t know….but I do know it affects most of us on a pretty regular basis.  Insecurity is crippling!  It holds us back and keeps us stuck like molasses.  I like to think of myself as confident and sure…but the honest truth is that I’ve struggled many times with thinking negatively about myself.  The last year or so….I’ve been convinced that I’ve lost my mojo!  I just feel completely useless and inadequate.  Does this happen to you?  Tell me I’m not crazy!

Beth Moore has recently finished what I think is going to be one of her BEST BOOKS EVER.  The title….So Long Insecurity!  The release date….February 2nd 2010!  The big deal….she’s inviting women to join her in going through the book as soon as it comes out in February!  I can’t wait!  This is not a coincidence, I tell ya!  It is a God thing! Beth’s blog post here gives a little more details.  If anyone can speak the truth on a touchy subject….it’s Beth Moore!  This is a must read, ladies!  I pray you will join up.

Lysa Terkeurst (another rockin Bible teaching gal) posted on this topic at (In)courage’s blog yesterday.  A co-inka-dink?  NO, I DON’T THINK SO!!  Go read her take on it.  This girl knows how to touch a heart.  She’s real….and she isn’t afraid to tell what’s dirty and icky in her walk with Christ.  Or what holds her back.  I love her ministry too, Proverbs 31 is instrumental in showing women the way TO the Savior that loves them.  I also read her personal blog (which is filled with REAL) and feel challenged everytime to stay on course with what God expects of me.  Thanks Lysa!  And Beth!

I hope you feel incredible today.  I hope you get a glimpse somewhere along the way of how God see’s you.  I hope someone shows you kindness and affirmation…..and that you would do the same to another.  It’s up to us, ladies…..we can help stamp out insecurity!  Be a friend….reach out to someone that you wouldn’t normally talk to.  Let God’s love flow through you and touch someone that may be feeling like they don’t fit in.  You can do it!

Now that’s a challenge!

Habakkuk 3:19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
