Don’t Wear A Gray Hoodie

June 8th, 2012

First thing I did this morning was slip into some walking clothes and hit the streets of my neighborhood.  I really hate the poor condition of my (earthly vessel) and thought this would inspire me to get serious with my physical fitness or lack thereof.  The weather has been unreal here in Indiana….cool sunny mornings with a lovely breeze.  Perfect for walking and meditating with the Lord.

I hadn't planned to walk very far because I didn't want to miss sitting in my hot tub again while the morning was still fresh and cool.  I noticed a police car stop at the corner of the street I was about to turn onto.  I had to walk right beside his car as I turned..so I leaned down and said, "Good morning!".  He spoke back and I kept trucking!  It appeared to me that he was "looking" for someone but he didn't say anything to me, so I kept going.  I walked around to another street and then cut across a neighbors house (we always cut through here) to get back on the street I actually live on.  I caught up with a retired gentleman walking his dog and we stopped to chat.

We stood there 2 houses down from my own house, talking.  He told me he was a retired minister and had moved back recently to our quiet little town.  Why?  He has grandkids here.  While we talked, another police car pulled up beside us.  The officer asked me if I had been on Long Street.  I told him that I had just come from there and he said they had received a call of a suspicious female wearing a gray hoodie walking there.  Whaaaaaat?

Are you kidding me?

I've lived in this same house in this same neighborhood since 2002, 10 years!  I've walked these streets alone & with my family hundreds of times.  I know most of the neighbors.  Who would call the police on me?  Better yet, how was I a suspicious person?  I fear, it's sabotage!  Somebody wants to keep me chubby!  I couldn't help but laugh, along with the officer and my new friend that I was the person someone would call in as a suspicious person.  I mean, I leave my house looking clearly like a fat mom on a mission and end up scared that I'm going to show up on a WANTED poster!

The officer told us that they're experiencing some break-ins in our area and that everyone is on alert!  Yea, yea…really?!  Well, no one told me that and my hubby spends hours working on IT stuff at the local Sheriff's office.  I would surely here something about burglaries of my neighbors….don't you think?

Oh and that's not the end of it.  One more police officer came by while my friend and I chatted.  This time it was someone from the Sheriff's office.  I forgot to mention, I live on a Cul-de-sac and NO ONE COMES THROUGH HERE WITHOUT BEING SEEN!  So, count em!  Three (3) law enforcement officers were out looking for ME!!

The lesson?  Don't wear that gray hoodie jacket (which is crazy, since I wear it all the time) and exercise walk in my neighborhood anymore!  These people are in cahoots with the fat devil, I tell ya!

This is my new favorite way to blog. I can’t believe how beautiful it is this morning. God must have orchestrated it just for me.

I’ve used it’s loveliness to read and pray… And to just sit quietly and listen. What a long time it has been since I lavished myself with such a privilege.

I’m finding the more I get into my summer break–the more INTENTIONAL I am living my everyday life. Instead of merely surviving, I’m doing and accomplishing things that matter to me.

This morning, I’m thanking God for loving me and showing me just how important it is to enjoy what He’s given me!

It’s a glorious morning here–how’s life where you are?

Mama Loves Jesus

June 6th, 2012

I decided a long time ago that I wanted a different life for my own kids.  I didn't have an example of what the christian life looked like while growing up.  I was confused and unsure about most things "churchy".  After my first taste of a church family as a middle school kid, I knew that was the life for me.

I trusted God would make a way for me in spite of my abusive and toxic homelife.  When I met my hubby in 1989, I had no idea that he was part of the big plan God was constructing to bless me forever.  I almost flipped when he told me that his dad was a Baptist minister.  I felt like I was finally safe (sounds weird, I'm sure) and I knew that with him I could be everything God wanted me to be.

I didn't have to keep my faith a secret.  I could be who I really wanted to be, a Christian.  Little did I know, God would send us both on a journey of faith following that would impact our whole family….forever.

One of the greatest challenges?  Being a Godly mother!  I knew that I wanted to train my kids up with the love and forgiveness of Christ.  Something that was foreign to me while growing up.  So, I set out with a purpose every single day.  I lived my faith outloud in front of my kids.  When I fell short (which happened, regularly) I had the courage to admit it and ask for forgiveness.

I had no idea what the final outcome would be for my kids.  Would they love Jesus when they were old enough to live outside of my rules?  Would they choose to follow His ways instead of peers or what's popular?  Would they reflect back on my "worst of days" and make a decision to turn from God?  Honestly, I didn't know what they would choose?  I just kept praying…..

I can only attest for what God has done within my own family.  I'm not a mother expert or a model Christian citizen.  I'm just a mom that purposefully lived her faith everyday in front of her kids.  They made decisions and still do today that I believe are extensions of the life they've grown up knowing.  If you've ever wondered if you're making a difference in your kids lives….take heart!

They are watching.  They are hoping you make the hard choices to do the tough things.  They want you to be different (forget about weird, you will always be that anyway).  When you and I live for Christ in front of our kids–we enable them to be confident in who they are as His children too.

I never wanted my kids to be ashamed of God.  I knew firsthand what that felt like.  It was frustrating!  I couldn't be open about my relationship with Jesus in front of my mom, she would ridicule me and remind me I wasn't good enough to think such a thing.  God blessed me time after time through my own children by using them to impact others.  Each of them strong & courageous with WHO THEY WERE IN CHRIST!

Wow, God!  Thank you.

If you're looking for a good MOM READ that focuses on being a mom that loves Christ…..look no further.  Author Katie Hoffman has written a book just for you and today on Amazon (Kindle) it's on sale for $3.99.

Lord,

I'm just an ordinary mom serving an extraordinary God.  Thank you for using me to influence my kids.  It hasn't always been easy but because of YOU…I know they are people of character.  Bless them and guide them as they make real life decisions at this time in their lives and continue to use their dad & I…however you see fit.

Amen

I Love Art

June 4th, 2012

I never miss an opportunity to tell anyone who asks…that I love Indiana!  It's a wonderful state full of beautiful land, interesting people and exciting places!  This morning while doing some online reading, I found this—->

Is that cool or what?  It's a custom print made by artist, Molly Mattin and she sells them on etsy!  What's not to love about etsy, right?  She will even add cities if you don't find yours on her original print.  Wouldn't these make the best gifts?  I love it!

While I do not see my city there….I still find it really cool!  I have a few "someone's" in mind right now to give these to as gifts.  It's sure to be an interesting conversation piece.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine." Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

Now, onto a hot topic.  Surely you've heard the blah blah blah about Fifty Shades of Grey?  If you haven't, good!  It's the latest book series craze among women all over the world.  I clicked on Amazon after hearing about how popular it was and found myself sick with regret for even looking at the reviews.  I couldn't believe that this was a bestseller and that women (ALL AGES) were lining up to meet the books author and to buy the books!  Really?

Gross!

I'm not a book burner or basher (normally) but this type of reading is something of a shocker to me.  Especially when "christian" women are on waiting lists to get their hands on these books.  Whaaaa?  Very confusing!  I'm not sure what the pull is (don't tell me the books have a great "story line").  IT IS SMUT!  Not only is it scandalous….the reviews say it is very poorly written.  To me, it just goes to show you….PEOPLE ARE SEARCHING for something and more often than not the world is delivering two-fold with garbage!

I love the post written by author Dannah Gresh on her blog, Pure Freedom, regarding this very controversial book series.  She hits a homerun with her Biblical take on what reading such a book means for the believer.  Thank you Dannah for always writing the hard stuff.  You give a girl/woman/lady a sweet look into what God has in store for each of us–if we just follow Him!

I want to be a better wife, mom & follower because of writers like you!

Wanna read more good stuff from Dannah?  Go HERE!

And if you're looking for some excellent reading for your girls or friends.  Go HERE!

Wherever you are, I hope this week holds fun and blessings!  Who knew Monday's could be enjoyable?  Oh sweet summertime!  wink

I Miss Batman

June 2nd, 2012

My boy isn't a boy anymore!  He hasn't been for a while.  But I like to imagine that he's still a young buck frolicking around and pretending to be a super hero or Batman Cowboy!

Who cares about dirty faces?  Not me, that's just a sign of someone who's having fun!

Nobody needs to tell me how fast time flies….I've had a front seat view of his life.  I'm the one that's cooked most of his meals, washed his clothes/dirtyface/body and laughed til my stomach ached at his funny shenanigans!

I've also been privy to watch him grow in Jesus.  I'm thankful to say that at this stage of his life he loves HIM even more than he did back then.

{Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child and when he is old, he will not depart from it.}

It's funny how a person is pretty much who they're going to be by the time they start school.  This cute little face wearing a pretty Polo shirt is the same fellow that loves Polo today.

(SON) Instead of buying that Ducati you're dreaming of…why not stick to something closer to this?  Who needs all that speed when you can still be cool cruising the beach on a pizza catching scoot?

H A P P Y – B I R T H D A Y – G A V I N  !!

I love you.  I love who you are and all that you're becoming.  God has blessed our family with you and each of us are so proud of you.  I hope 22 treats you amazing!  Just like you!

I hope you never lose your super powers!

Better People

May 31st, 2012

I've spent the morning walking all around one of the most beautiful yards in Indiana.  The gardens are full of every flower and plant known to this area.  I kept finding myself thinking, "Is anyone else taking the time to enjoy all of this?".  Ms. Sandy (my lovely host) is a busy lady.  I was passenger to just a tid-bit of her life yesterday.  Everywhere she goes, she stomps on the gas of her SUV…I can only describe it as being similar to riding on a rollercoaster at Six Flags because this lady flies and the roads around here…..are long and winding!  Weeeeeeeeee!

I've been a guest here since Tuesday and not one minute of my stay has been boring.  I think I've mentioned they live in the middle of nowhere.  It took about 30 minutes to get to "town" yesterday (which was West Lafayette).  The land just goes and goes all around but the beauty and excitement goes even further.

If you can't find a place to park it and soak up God's goodness around here…then you are not looking very hard.  Everywhere you turn, there's something beautiful.  It is a sight to behold.

I can't imagine living in such a beautiful place and sharing it with the many (like the Hageman's do) friends and family.  I can see they have figured out some very important values in life.  Love people.  Love them for who they are and what God is doing in their lives.  Bring them in, allow them to shine, enjoy the moments you share and send them away BETTER PEOPLE than when they arrived.

For every trail in life…leads to something wonderful.  If you're watching carefully, you might just find the ones God places in your path are there to teach you something.

God,

Your works are amazing.  You bless me with such tender blessings.  Thank you for new friends and fun times.  My heart is full and I know it all comes from you.

Amen
