Buckle up! I’m not kidding!

Monday, March 14th, 2011

I bet this won’t surprise you….but somehow, I managed to NOT prepare my heart for my baby getting her driver’s license! I’ve been innocently minding my own business (assisting two older children do all sorts of grown-up things) and all the while my little baby was growing up too! Not fair! πŸ˜‰

On Friday, she and the official taker of all Galloway children to get their license DAD boogied on up to the DMV to take the BIG TEST!! Inside my head I knew this was big….but honestly, my heart just wasn’t prepared! How can this be? She’s just a punk still. Right?

Oh time! What have you done with MY BABY? I suppose I have to let go of that dream that she’ll always stay with me. But I’m not doing it happily! πŸ™‚

Both Saturday and Sunday she got in a little practice time. She’s not had ANY driving experience until now. I wonder if that’s how it is in other families? The youngest just has to wait….while the older ones do everything? We really had fun out on the roads (ok, some of it a bit scary!) while she got the feel of being behind the wheel. She’s getting the hang of it…..but my heart may never!

I love this crazy girl…

Change of plans

I’ve been waiting……for my awesome leopard print rainboots to arrive. It’s been raining and raining here everyday. Finally, they came last night! πŸ™‚ Yay!

I was so excited! I planned to wear them to school with my cute new skinny jeans (ON JEANS DAY FRIDAY!). I put together a black shirt and cream ruffly sweater then slipped on my cute boots….and walked in the bathroom where my fashion consultants were busy prettying up to hear–“You’re cute, but don’t wear that today! It’s NOT raining!” Whaaaaa? All it has done, is rain! Heck, our state is still under flood warning! Today, the sun is shining!

Back to the drawing board! I changed jeans, shoes and kept the sweater/shirt combo and off to school I went. Sat in crazy traffic (RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY SCHOOL) forever! Finally made it in the building and guess what?

IT ISN’T JEANS DAY, YET!! πŸ˜‰

Oops!

God
Thank you that it’s Friday! I know we say it all the time, but I’m really happy to have made it another week. I cherish the weekend’s that you give me time to rest and recoup! Let me be a blessing to the family I spend my time with.
Amen

SAVE TWENTY-FIRST SCHOLARS

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Please go to Save Twenty-first Century Scholars on Facebook and LIKE! IU has put together a great amount of info on this very important issue!

Time is ticking for this program. If Rep. Tom Dermody has his way….Hoosier families will be out of the promise that they pledged to be a part of. In other words, THE DEAL IS OFF!

If you know how much college costs….then you realize that this could be a devastating blow to many who otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to afford college.

Right now, this is in the hands of folks that are sneaking it right on through legislature. Anyone can help. By calling the Indiana Representatives offices and voicing your concern.

Have I told you?

About my new nook case? Yes, that’s the one I’ve been wishing for. I won it on ebay last week for $27!! Oh yea, happy dance! I knew if I waited…..good things would happen! Yay, half price for my sweet Lilly Pulitzer case!

But wait…that’s not all! Remember the rain boots? Uh-huh! I WON THOSE TOO! Thank you to Hope over at Hope’s Cafe she hosted this awesome little Nomad contest and I WON, ya’ll! Yeehaw! Free boots!

I know….it just seems craze-balls! My family has decided that I should buy a lotto ticket! I’m feeling super blessed but not quite lucky enough to win a million dollars. hehe! I would however love to win a Kitchen Aid mixer or some free ebooks…..anybody got a contest? Haha! πŸ™‚

P.S.
I don’t know if I mentioned my great BIG WIN of a year’s supply of Windex? Uhh, yea…..I have boxes stacked man high in my garage and guess what was on my porch today when I got home from school? MORE WINDEX!!! Somebody help me! I have no clue what I’m ever going to do with it all.
Mission work? Outreach? Donation? Clean crusade? Aaaaahhh!

College Road Trip

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

If you’ve ever watched the Raven Symone movie College Road Trip, then you know how emotional searching for your daughter’s future college can be. I cry, every single time I watch it. Martin Lawrence plays the dad and he tries everything to force his little girl to attend the college HE CHOOSES! Sounds like a dad, huh?

That’s not how our trip played out. We have the choice narrowed down to two and they are in the same town, Bloomington! We took off towards B-town on Friday morning in search of answers. Both of us felt a little nervous about the whole situation (I hope that’s how everyone feels). Not only were we going to do a college tour….but Ally had a dinner date with her prospective roommates at 5pm. I can’t believe I just typed the words, roommates!?! Huh?

After our tour, we picked up Gavin from his apartment and headed for lunch. Mexican food! Yum! Then we did what everybody does on college visits….test drove Jeeps! We needed to kill time and this just happened to be what everyone wanted to do. In the rain! πŸ™

We ditched the dude and headed to the roommate dateNoodles. God has such a cool way of blessing us if we just get out of the way. That’s how Ally and I felt after leaving the roommate date. All of the girls were awesome! {Thank you Lord} Now, we just wait as in wait for final details about schools.

We had a great day and met some terrific people. We even learned our way around B-town (right Ally?).

Here’s our picture before we left…..We took it ourselves, can you tell?

My kryptonite……I’m sure of it!

If you know what’s good for you, you’ll just click off my blog right now and move on. These cookies are so delicious and easy, you’ll be making them up in no time! Then, you’ll be eating hiding them. Keep reading if you want to torture yourself and anyone around you that wishes to be skinny! πŸ˜‰

Homemade Oreos

1 1/4 C. All Purpose Flour
1/2 C. Unsweetened Cocoa
1 t. Baking Soda
1/4 t. Baking Powder
1/4 t. Salt
1-1 1/2 C. sugar (I used just over a cup because it’s uber sweet)
1 1/4 Sticks unsalted butter (softened)
1 Large egg

Cream butter, egg & sugar together. Slowly beat in dry ingredients. Dough will be very thick. Using a teaspoon to scoop a small amount, then roll into a ball and flatten onto your baking pan.
Bake at 375 for 8 minutes. Let stand in pan a few minutes then move to cooling rack.

Cream Filling:
1/4 C. unsalted butter
1/4 C. vegatable shortening
2 C. sifted confectioners sugar

Mix well and spoon small amount onto cookies. EAT!! (I mean, put them on a plate and share them. Duh!)

The hardest part? Making all your cookies match in size. Be careful, they are also very addicting! ENJOY!
