Dogsitting

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

No, it’s not my new hobby. I volunteered to do it….willingly. I have my own problems dogs. But adding one more to the mix was just icing on the cake. He’s been an angel! As a matter of fact, my whole family loves him. His name is Braska (short for Nebraska…..a town near here…not the state).

Take a look at him. Does this guy look like he’s trouble?

Good, cause he’s not. I just got a call from his owner’s employee. She wanted to let me know the family will be an extra 4-5 days. I had to laugh. We really like having him as our guest. But I must tell you some of his quirks (not that they are a problem…..just we’ve cracked up over).

1–He’s like lightning! If you crack the door open…..HE’S GONE! I mean really gone. It happened twice. The first time, hubby did it. That dog ran so fast down our driveway and never bothered to look back. I was sure we’d lost him forever. He came back and collapsed on our front doorstep……….panting his little heart out. The next time it was my son who did it. He thought he’d be nice and play tennis ball with him…..uhhh yeah right! That dog REALLY was gone this time. SIX HOURS!!! A neighbor had caught him and had him inside….loving on him. He really is that sweet! πŸ™‚

2–He likes to run. Full blast, run! We can’t keep up with him on a leash and since we don’t trust him to his own freedom……he has to stay on a lead. We hate this! But we don’t want to lose him….again. So, he barks when he’s on the lead (we don’t like barking….it’s a disturbance to neighbors). We let him in and out…back and forth. All he really wants to do is chase our birds and squirrels. Poor guy!

3–He’s a morning dog! Anybody that knows my family….knows we aren’t morning people! We are like zombies…fumbling our way through to see lunchtime asap. Not Braska, he’s so happy and peppy! He will run and jump on your bed……like, come on….get happy with me. πŸ™‚

4–He’s eating A LOT! Between him and our two female dogs, we’ve gone through his bag of food as well as our tub full. It’s like they are having a dog “eat-off”. A competition! I don’t think he’s fed this much at home….but here, he’s living high on the hog. He may need to fast a bit. Teehee! Just kiddin!

5–He threw up! At 2am! We like to sleep during those hours….but when a kid comes in your room saying, “Dad….help, the dog got sick all over the floor!”. What can you do? Well, you get up and clean it up. Yuck! He must have eaten too much?!! He’s better now.

All that sounds like I’m complaining…but I’m not. We have fallen hard for this guy. Nobody wants to let him go back. The family that owns him will have to watch us act crazy when he leaves with them. We may even get teary! Ok….we’re not that wacky. But we will miss him. He’s been fun to have as a guest.

Braska, you’re welcome to visit us anytime! Sweet doggy!

Death is not dying….

rachel-barkey

I blogged a while back about her. You may have watched her video and heard her give an amazing testimony about living for Christ. If you missed it…..please see it. You will not be sorry!

Who am I talking about? Rachel Barkey

Time seems different to each of us. For Rachel…..it was knowing that very soon her life would end. Cancer would take her from her husband and children. But….she would enter into eternity with her savior. She gave a very real face to death and she shared what she was figuring out in the process. It’s not all about ME! It’s about Him! Jesus Christ!

Thank you Rachel. Your life was worth so much. I’m so glad God shared you with this world. May your legacy live on in your children and all that loved you. Rest in heavenly peace.

I’m late in the game….but still, I wanted to play along. In this game, it’s all about making friends. Who doesn’t like that, huh? Nobody, I’ll tell ya! For this week….if you’re interested….it’s FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPH week.

This photo was taken many years ago. Like 12 years or so. It was when I had a house full of busy pre-schoolers. A time that I look back on with the fondest of memories. It was nap time but as you can see by the photo…..my little angels were working on their tiger stripes..WITH AN INK PEN!!!

Yea…..I was a little shocked when I found them! But this picture is one of my very favorites. It reminds me of fun and creativity….something my kids are still good at (as teenagers!). What a sweet memory! Oh and the question the one in the middle asked when I first saw them….

“How do you yike us Mommy? We ahhh tigurrrs!!?”

Well…..I yike them real good! πŸ™‚

And the rains came tumbling down….

If you live anywhere near Indiana….then you know exactly what I’m talking about. This 4th of July was a monsoon! There wasn’t a dry moment the entire holiday. We southerners….stayed inside where it was dry and cozy! Oh the fun we missed! NOT!

On Sunday, we thought it would be fun to take our kids over to Madison Indiana (the Madison Regatta was going on)….and we had a gift certificate for Key West Shrimp House. The giftcard was a gift hubby received for interim pastoring back in October….yes, we’ve had it that long. We’ve been waiting for a good time to use it. Except that evidently yesterday wasn’t a good time because they were closed when we arrived.

But……we did see some of this….

and this….

This is a view from the bridge as we were crossing over…..

These boats are amazing! They were flying by. I couldn’t get a picture of them making the turn. Yikes! I couldn’t believe how fast they were going and then turning around. Very cool!
Our kids were starving….so we headed back to town for a delicious meal from Sonic! I really wanted to see more of the boat races….but oh well. Maybe next year! πŸ™‚

oh….I did see on the nightly news that one of the driver’s flipped his boat the day before. Scary!

Free to be me!

usa

I’m happy that I live in America! I consider it a privilege! It always bothers me when I see someone show disrespect towards the USA. Like in school….when we do the morning pledge, students feel no honor in participating and most of them wouldn’t utter one word of the pledge if you forced them to. They don’t have to be jubilent and excited to say it (don’t get me wrong). I just hate the attitude that is behind why most of them don’t. Which is….a terribly distorted idealism of what they believe is their country. It’s a sad thing. Somewhere, somehow they have been engrained with a hatred for anything that has to do with America….AND THEY’RE AMERICANS!!!!

Maybe I’m a little sensitive. I don’t know. But what I do know is that in this country I am free to be me. I have the right to do most everything I could possibly dream up. I can marry and have as many children as I can afford to feed (boy or girl). I can own a home and a car….clothes and shoes. I can work and retire when I’m too old to do it anymore. I can own a Bible and go to church without having to hide in secret. I can sleep at night not worrying about being bombed or burned out. There are so many things that I as an American do not have to worry about. Why? Because of the country that I live in.

I am free to be me…..and so are you! Be thankful to be an American.

HAPPY 4TH of JULY!!!

I’m loving…..

Two things right now!

This book and this candle!

summer-fun-090

Yum-yum to both.

The book is titled What Southern Women Know About Faith by Ronda Rich. It was in my gift bag from the Pastor’s Wives luncheon at the Southern Baptist Convention last week. I am loving it! Ronda Rich could be my neighbor…….she shares such sweet truths. It’s definitely what I needed to read this summer. I miss home! There really is no place like the south, ya’ll!

There’s something about yummy smells that make home……homey! This candle is delicious! It’s made right here in Indiana. Everytime I go to the Flea Market store in Seymour…..I head straight for this one booth. She usually has every flavor but my favorite, Snickerdoodle! Well, yesterday was my lucky day. One Snickerdoodle left! I grabbed it right up. Finders-keepers! πŸ™‚

I’m going to be so sad when I’m finished with them both. Oh well, all good things must come to an end! Until then…..I’ll savor every moment!
