Let me out!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I know I’ve mentioned a time or twenty how busy and hectic my life has been the last few weeks. It’s those kids! They keep me hopping from one thing to the next. I haven’t had a moment to stop and smell the coffee in I don’t know how long. Most of the focus the last week or so has been on G A V I N !!! He had banquets to attend, parties to plan, a birthday…graduation… blah blah blah!

Last night I spent a little time with hubby in the hot-tub. We sneak out every once in a while and have a real live uninterrupted conversation. We should do this every night….but who has the time? Not me! Remember, I’m busy! πŸ™‚ Afterwards, I go in and shower before heading to bed. When I opened the bathroom door to come out…THIS IS WHAT I SAW…

What in the world? WHO DID THIS? Hey, let me out!!

I squeezed my way out and started room by room looking for the prankster. Each one claiming innocence until I opened Sweetboy’s door. He couldn’t look me in the eye and started cracking up! Very funny, I say! Is that how you treat your mom? Lock her in the bathroom with a spare mattress that just happens to be leaning up in the hallway?

Huh? What’s a mattress doing leaning in the hall, you say? Oh please… don’t act like you don’t have an extra mattress in your hallway! Get real, people!

Okay, we have it as an extra spot for sleepover’s and the what have you. Normally, it’s in the storage room. Once it comes out….we tend to move it all over because someone will want to use it. I hereby proclaim, it’s going to be put away tomorrow! No more pranks! Yea, right!

gavins-grad-party-007

Tonight was the night! It actually happened, people! After the weekend of the puking human volcano…..and missing his big graduation celebration party….we were beginning to doubt he would ever have a successful party. Oh but have no fear! God had other plans, oh yes he did.

I couldn’t sleep last night. Gavin decided to buddy up with several guys that live in the same neighborhood across town for a sleepover. I’m usually pretty cool about that sort of thing. But for some reason, I just couldn’t relax and go to sleep. I prayed as I laid there with my eyes popping open that God would keep him safe wherever he was. My head started hurting then my back…..before I knew it I was aching all over (I think because I was stressing out). So much has happened in the last week or so. I really wanted him to have a great party.

This morning a raging thunderstorm was my wake up noise. I mean it was raining buckets. I wanted to cry. It’s the reschedule day for the party and I worried that once again….we might have to cancel. I prayed again and just let it alone. God doesn’t need my assistance anyway. He’s got it under control!

He proved that. Tonight’s party was a great success. Everybody seemed to have a fun time including Gavin. He was surrounded by sweet friends and a big honking fire! Gotta love those pyromaniacs! Oh and that cake? Ooo la la! It was perfectly delicious! Just like I imagined it being the last 3 days. Yum yum!

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)

Gavin with the family….minus his sisters! They were lost!
graduation-023

It’s been 2 days since my Sweetboy walked across that stage and received his high school diploma. It still doesn’t seem quite real! I didn’t cry or even get emotional. I was too busy to think about it. We had family here and food to prepare along with party stuff to handle.

We planned his grad party for Sunday night. Haybales, hotdogs, smores……and a huge bonfire! With that many kids having parties we knew we needed to pick a time when friends could come without having to miss too many other parties. He was then free to go visiting several parties all over the county. He was only gone for 4-5 hours before returning with a killer head-ache. Instead of going back out for more celebrating….he stayed home on the couch!

By 5am Sunday morning…he was up and running for the bathroom, SICK! Deathly ill!

Party day + deathly ill = cancelled party! He was so sick he couldn’t talk. He just moaned and ran towards the bathroom over and over all day. We felt so bad for him. I did what I could……wet the rags, wiped the mouth, sprayed the Lysol and covered every single thing with bleach water. Poor Gavin! There was no bouncing right back.

He’s still in bed and not back to perfect health. Whatever it was….it was a doozy! He’s not a sickly kid and never has been. We can’t be sure if it wasn’t something he ate at one of many parties….he hopped around to so many. Or if it was an actual virus/flu bug. I’ve never seen him this sick in his whole life.

We hope to pull his Bonfire Blowout off this Wednesday night. His cool cake is still in the fridge and all the food along with it. Maybe by then he can eat again. The stomach is still a bit nervous. If not, he’s taking a ton of hotdogs to IU this fall! πŸ™‚ Ewww!

What a way to spend your graduation weekend, huh? We’re so proud of you Gavin! Congratulations graduate! Yahoo! Oh, and get well soon!

You forgot to mention the fact that he graduated with an 11.34 GPA out of 12 (10 is an A) which put him 21st in his Class of over 300! (Just one question Gavin, what happened to that .66?) Just kidding!! I am very proud of you!
Love you Sweet Boy!

wicked-017

I have heard about Wicked for the last three years from my kids and co-workers. My kids were in love with the music and were dreaming of actually seeing the show. My co-workers….well, they had actually seen it and well…blah blah blah…couldn’t stop talking about it.

It hasn’t been near us (except in Louisville…at a bad time for us) until now. When I heard it would be in Indy at the Murat…..I was so excited! But, I didn’t have tickets… until just over a week ago. Thank you Molly!

It started with 2 tickets available. Then one more later that same day. On the day of the show….a text message with ONE MORE TICKET!!! Yes, 4 tickets! Hubby didn’t go….but that’s ok. He was glad to let us enjoy this special event. Thanks, hubby! It was indescribable! Really! You have to go see it! I want to AGAIN!!!! NOW PLEASE!!!

After the most wonderful show…..we were wandering out of the theatre minding our own sweet business, of course. Who do we run into? Oh yea, Galinda and Elphaba! THE SHOW WAS FANTASTIC!

How could I ask for more?

wicked-poster

And I’m not talking about the slang word wicked! My three teens and I are heading to Indy today at 3:30 to party it up with 28 other friends from our school. The event? Only the best musical out there….WICKED!!

It has been a dream for my kids to see it for years….they know every single word! We hear it playing constantly on ipod’s and the computer at my house. They LOVE it! The excitement is off the charts! We feel so blessed to be invited along.

The sweetest lady in the world made it possible for two of us to go. She has always been someone I loved and looked up to at school. This year….Sweetboy was privileged to have her as his ACP English teacher. She’s had a tough year….physically, mentally, and emotionally. She has faced several health problems and loss in her family. On top of that…she was preparing to retire! That’s an amazing time in your life. Hers has been riddled with attacks! Now her sweet husband is experiencing what may be found as cancer. I haven’t heard if it’s a final diagnosis yet. So my heart is heavy for my kind friend, Sue Hughes!

Lord,
We trust you to work in your mysterious and amazing way. This situation with the Hughes family does not catch you by surprise. You are well aware. It’s my prayer that you would bless them and wrap your loving arms around them as they face uncertainty right now. They need you…and I place them in your capable hands.
Amen

Senior Breakfast Hoopla

When I walked in the door at school this morning…..I thought I’d stepped into an office supply store bombing! Sticky post-it notes graced every square inch of the halls, walls, and doors! It only took about a nano-second for me to figure out….SENIOR PRANK!!! πŸ™‚

It’s a great day to be a mom of a senior (by the way….I knew where 2 of the seniors were last night….NOT AT SCHOOL!!). The weather is sunny and breezy out and the excitement is buzzing in the Indiana air. This is also a dangerous time of year. Students think they’re invincible and tragedy tends to loom in communities all around. I pray for their safety as they celebrate this amazing time in their lives.

Each year….the big deal at our high school is the last day of school and the SENIOR BREAKFAST! It’s an emotional time of fellowship together, snapping gazillion’s of pictures and watching THE VIDEO! Ahh the video! This is the highlight of it all. Who can resist this walk down memory lane? Nobody, that’s who! I managed to watch it…..and I DID NOT CRY ONE TIME!!!! I love those kids!

Now they are off to practice walking in for graduation for the final time. It’s only days away now. I wish them all the best! May their lives glorify God and bless those around them. The future’s all theirs!
