A Book Run

August 16th, 2011

We are book people. If it has words that equal a good story we are like a moth to the flame. We must read it. Unfortunately, we tend to collect more books than our 2400 square foot house can hold. It’s sinful, period! Pray for us!

Not only do we like to collect book books. Somehow, my “guys” end up with tons of college books. My garage is so full of hubby’s seminary books we could start our own Baptist library. These (I’m told) are invaluable resources and can’t just be “gotten rid of”. He could need one of them and then what? So, they stay in their many boxes piled up high to the top of our garage. When the doors open up…the world can see who we really are, packrats! 😉

Since my sweetboy has moved home (a pile of stuff at a time) finding a place to put all of his things has been tricky. We’ve weeded out closets, drawers and once again resorted to stacking stuff up. It’s so annoying. I hate the clutter like I hate peeling potatoes (and baby, I hate peeling potatoes!!). So if you can imagine the mixture of items packed all willy-nilly–think about trying to find something important. It’s impossible!

So the big kahuna of MUST FINDS this week has been two very important books. Not just any old books either…..oh no, we don’t work that way. We like to live right on the edge of hysteria and madness.

These dudes—–>

Only one of them could be found. Not good. The owner, a very important AP Physics teacher next door to me (at school) needed them ASAP!! I was at work feeling a little stressed that the missing one would never be seen again. So, I did what any frazzled mama would do….I prayed. Then I sent him a final message that said, “Find it, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE!!”.

Minutes later, he sends me the news that he has located the very lost and important book. It’s in Bloomington!

Good thing he’s a college dude and has nothing but time and money, huh? 🙂
A lesson for him. A blessing for us both.

Thank you Lord. You care about things that we goof up and I’m forever grateful!
Amen

Sick Day, Already?

August 15th, 2011

Waking up at the evil early hour of 6:30am after a summer of sleepin’ in sure can wreck a person’s positive attitude! I did it, but I didn’t want to. I’m really not a lazy mama….I just don’t like an alarm clock bossing me around. Ya know?

We buzzed on to school and wouldn’t you know…the traffic jam problems? Still there. It reminded me how much I loathe the drive to school each day. Blek! It’s a test of the highest kind…..I catch myself whispering, “Hold it together Mama, WWJD?”. But man, I want to honk my horn! Hehe. [picture, twisty mouth]

Everything was going fairly smooth until lunchtime when the main office called me on my cellphone. I hadn’t been near the thing all day. I was sitting at my desk eating a salad when the call came. It was a medical emergency and they couldn’t “find” me. Huh? What? I’m where the bosses scheduled me to be. You can’t find me? Come on now!

My poor baby was in the school nurse. My kids never go to the nurse, ever. Unless it’s with me, for something specific. I headed down to find her writhing in pain (Hello, mother nature!!!! You cruel beast! On the first day of school? Seriously!) and begging for something, anything to make it stop. Poor kid. I’ve been there…..more than once.

Lucky for me, I have a college age son at home who could run up and pick up the patient. So, there you have it. Gates takes her first day of school and uses up 1/2 of it for a sick day. Hopefully, she’ll be feeling awesome tomorrow and I won’t get any wacky calls on my cell.

Yea, school is officially a fun buster! And obviously, not the best place for a bout of the cramps!

Get well soon, my baby! We’re a team, remember? I can’t go without you & that’s final!

Goodbye Summer

August 14th, 2011

I’m trying hard not to mourn the end of my break. Considering how much I love being off from school….I’m not doing a very good job. Girlfriend is depressed! It doesn’t help that Gates is dragging around dreaming up ways to miss her first day back too. She’s worse off than me on this subject AND I HAVE TO WORK THERE not bebop around as a student.

Oh the gall!

I was talking with another staff member yesterday at the grocery store and she summed it up exactly. It’s not that the summer is ending, it’s that school is beginning and once it does that…it’s like a rollercoaster–you can’t get off until it’s over! So very true!

Looking at it that way…..I’ve figured out who I am on the ride. The screamer! From takeoff to screeching stop….I’ll be wide-eyed and shaky! By God’s grace, I’ll make it through. Right?

If you don’t mind and you happen to think of me, pray that God would use me in spite of me and bless all that I do this year at school. I don’t want to waste His time or mine!

Rolling On

August 12th, 2011

Vacation is slowly fading behind me. I’m cruising down the highway through Alabama right now at a speed I shouldn’t admit. Hubby’s at the wheel and the punks are lined up in back. We’ve have had a great week just being free to swim, rest or do whatever tickled our fancy.

The sun seemed to toy with us this week and rain chased us around constantly. But we didn’t let it drag us down, we played anyway. Our family ended up in one of the many pools during a little rainstorm yesterday and played a mean game of volleyball with our friends the Nelson’s! It was so much fun…even if I had to have hubby hold me up in the deep end so I could serve! 😉
Oh and the old people? We beat the young healthy whippersnappers 2 out of 3 games. Hehe!

It was more than great to get away. We had a blast from the beginning to the end of our adventure. I just can’t wait to sleep in my own bed and to love on my dog (Miss Lizzy)! Trips are exciting……but home really is Home SWEET Home!

We’ll miss you soft sandy beach.

Extreme Vacationing

August 10th, 2011

I’m copy-catting the travel channel’s show Extreme Workplaces. Who knew there were employers who encouraged such stuff as decorating your office in themes? Like Ebay? Each employee focuses on their obsession and shops specifically to decorate their space in the junk collections they love. That’s not all the perks either. They cater to their employees in many other ways too. And don’t get me started with all the goings on at Google! Wow!

Makes me question….what am I doing with my life?

Oh yea, I’m still on vacay. At the beach! Woohoo!

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not lost in some exotic locale. And my hotel room isn’t decorated in some awesome theme. But for a gal whose not left Indiana in several years…..I’m in paradise!

It’s time for me to drag myself down to the shoreline. I’ve got a tan to work on and some waves to watch. Hope you have a great last week of summer wherever you are.

Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for I, the LORD your God, am with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

HARD-ly Sleeping

August 9th, 2011

Since I’m living the goodlife this week……it’s inevitable that one would miss out on a good donut run.  I woke up this morning begging for some sort of coffee magic to heal my aching back.  Coffee just happened to be the one thing I didn’t purchase on my grocery excursion yesterday.  Lucky for us, right down the road is a hole in the wall donut shop and a little further on is a McDonald’s (Hello, Mocha Frappe).

Hubby and I rolled off of our table out of bed and headed towards the sugary goodness.  Both the donuts and the frappe were well worth the $18.  God bless you inventors of coffee and donuts!  🙂  My spoiled body thanks you!

By the way, why is it that our bodies insist on certain levels of bed softness or hardness?  My family is highly keen on soft squishy beds.  We have the most luxurious beds of anyone I know.  I’m not bragging here, honest.  We have sooooooooooft thick mushy beds at home with smooth sheets.  Hotels typically go with the hard flat kind.  Therefore, we are all a hurtin’…thanks to sleeping on top of bed tables.

Enough of my whiney complaining!  I’m actually happy to be here and having a great time.  In spite of the hard sleep arrangements.

Time for me to move on…..the beach and I have an appointment today.

PS
We had such a great time visiting with our friends in Destin.
