Caught Ya

November 2nd, 2015

Surely, by now….you’ve heard about the home surveillance video of the trick-or-treaters left to take a candy bar on the honor system.

Bad idea, huh?

image

The honor system.  Hmm, perhaps it could work.

image

But, if you’ve watched the video….then you know what happened to the big fat full-sized candy bars left by the very thoughtful homeowners.

A mother came along and loaded her bags with all the candy (which looked to be many boxes of candy bars).  Boo hiss, right?

Major fail, mama.  Really, what a moment to remember forever in your child’s mind.  It’s not hard to figure out where society falls flat with the lack of integrity or even respect for police and government.

image

I’m not sure what this stealing mama thinks of her newfound fame all over YouTube and news stations but I’m betting she’s not ashamed.  It can’t be ignored that a person who steals would limit their wicked behaviors to just stealing.  Anyone who takes something that doesn’t belong to them will do pretty much anything else illegal or unethical.   It’s only a peek into the heart of a person’s scales of justice.

In the video, it appears hungry mama instructs the child with her to fill up his own bag.  Clearly, the child takes the opportunity to feed his own natural instinct of greed seeing that mama is doing the same.

Stealing is an act of greed.  No matter how big or small.  Anytime a person helps them self to an object that isn’t theirs…..they are ultimately saying that they deserve it and the person who owns it is just getting what they deserve.  It’s a heart issue, just like hating another person or killing someone.  The heart is depraved (yours and mine), without the saving power and grace of God we are destined to stay in our naturally wicked state. As is our society.

What does any of this matter?  I’m glad you asked.  If you’ve ever had something stolen from you then you know how it feels.  It’s violating.  Each of us have a responsibility to teach honesty in our own homes.  It’s up to us to instill integrity in our kids and grandkids.  They will do exactly as they see – so be diligent with your own honesty and character.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting to get caught (on video or in person) with their hand in the candy jar.

Carpal Tunnel Hand Don’t Jive

October 30th, 2015

I officially feel as though I might die from hand wrist and finger pain.  Call me a baby, I DON”T CARE!

I said,  “I’m dying!”.

image

I can’t sleep, put on my makeup, hold a cup, wipe ANYTHING, wash my face or fight off badguys!  Life as I know it is dead to me.

I’m an invalid.  Put me out to pasture til I step on into glory.  I’m worthless.

image

I spent the morning calling every doctor, surgeon and office clerk that would listen to me.  No appointment available anywhere until November 16th and then I’ll need to have had an EMG to which I say OMG!

I’ll be dead by then because everybody knows Carpal Tunnel syndrome is fatal and I of course have the worst case in history of hurting hands.

Did I mention I can’t pick my nose?

image

And because my family likes food & stuff I’m subbing today….I’m holding this budget together with my left and only worthy hand!

image

Many would call me a martyr,  but let’s not go crazy.   I’m just a woman and women never give up.   We just power through.

Blame childbirth.

I hope your weekend is full of fun and pain-free body parts.  This might be our last goodbye.

Blowing Into the Windy City

October 29th, 2015

This past weekend was a wild Chicago excursion for hubby and me. Don’t feel bad for us, we like to visit the big city known for shootings and homebase for the Obama’s. Neither of which affects us too much. We go for the great food, shopping and beautiful city walking. Besides, it’s around a 3 hour drive from our house and who wouldn’t want to walk with thousands of other touristy people down the Magnificent Mile? Stop, wait, go! Every single block and redlight.

I dig it.

How can you not love this city?

The weather was just right too.

We checked into our hotel that cost $300 dollars on Saturday (when we needed it) but dropped to $77 the next day when we didn’t need it anymore. So, crazy. Ahh, Chicago livin!

Then, hit the streets!

chicago girl

Of course, had to stop by Nordy’s to see this cute kid. This is Colleen our daughter’s boyfriend (Bobby’s) sister. She works in handbags, the cheapos like Dooney & Kate Spade and the likes. I managed to get my hands on a sweet Louis Vuitton and my hubby WOULDN’T TAKE MY DANG PICTURE!!! He was a real stick in the mud! It may be the only one I ever get to touch for the rest of my live long life!

chicagooo

Here I am in my favorite role – lady who gets stopped by the psycho kiosk hustlers. I CANNOT GET BY THESE EVIL DOERS! This Russian wrinkle policeman stopped me and wiped his wicked wrinkle glue on my eyes because he thought I needed it to be beautiful. JERK.

This is the face he thought needed help. Thanks, sir. Bubble officially busted. I’m 49, man!

chicago 4

Besides, I had important places to be.

I woke up Sunday morning and got in a little reading in my fluffy robe from The Gwen Hotel. It was so cozy there I could’ve stayed another night. However, we were really there on a mission.

We had people to see (pick up).

chicago gparents

The train dumped them at Union Station and we zipped by and grabbed them up.

Hubby’s parents traveled all the way from Washington state to Chicago just to visit us. We took them straight to a luxurious dinner at Stake-n-Shake! Haha.

So, here we are….grandparents visiting and ready for a few weeks of fun family time. Best reasons to visit Chicago, I think!

DIY Building Machine

October 27th, 2015

My hubby…..that guy, he just goes and goes. I come up with ideas and he makes them all come true. Over the last few weeks he’s hammered out some really cool projects. I’ve painted, stained and turned some of his work into awesome pieces for our house.

He doesn’t know how to say no. LUCKY ME!!!

Pallet Bench

bench

This bench is very similar to the one on my front porch. He had this wood hanging in the garage and whipped it up to take to my Aunt in Georgia. We painted it and stained it at midnight because WE ARE CRAZY!

Table

bed table

table stand

This cute table sits in my sunroom. He made it months ago and I decided to jazz it up with paint and stain. Why I waited, I don’t know because I love the green and dark top. The unstained piece in the picture is a table he made for beside my bed. I stained it dark too. I love it.

My bed

my bed

I know I’ve bragged about it here before….but, I love it so much. It looks normal in the photo but it is massive. The design is called Gustavian, he freehanded it onto the wood and cut it into the shape with his fancy saw. I’m telling you, he doesn’t scare easily. If I can think it up – HE WILL TRY IT!

Here’s the base.

bed frame

It’s not a slide it around easy kind of bed. SOLID!

Bathroom cabinet

bath cab

When we moved in this house, the bathrooms had weird over-the-toilet stands that looked so junky. I hated them and kept dreaming of something really shabby or old looking to replace them. I saw this idea on a blog and that’s all it took to get one built for the main bathroom. He did the staining and sanding and painting after building on it for a few long weekends.

You might not be able to tell in the picture but he “BUILT” a toilet lid too. Yes, that is wood. That’s what happens when your son knocks the lid over and it cracks into a few hundred pieces. Can you believe that it costs $60 to just replace the stupid lid? Hello, wood lid.

Guest room bed

headboard

Again with the bed dreams. I told him we needed to jazz up the king sized bed in our guest room for his parents visit. He looked around the garage and came up with some wood ideas and took off building. I found the scrolled topper at Hobby Lobby. Since this room is going to be Don’s new office, we plan to sell the whole bed after our guests go back home.

So, see what’s been happening around my house?

We’re running our own DIY PINTEREST HOME STORE! Oh and good news — we are planning on building a few pallet benches and tables to sell for Christmas money this year. I can’t wait!

Not 7 Times

October 23rd, 2015

What is it about forgiveness that makes it so darned difficult?

forgive forgive

What if the person who hurt you isn’t even sorry?

forgive

Or what if your heart is so clogged up with all the hurt that you can’t see past the pain?

forgive it

I know all about forgiveness. I’ve been a follower of Jesus Christ long enough to experience granting it, getting it and feeling the sweet release of it’s wicked hold on my heart plenty of times. The honest truth is that there are issues that sneak back up and bang you over the head. Things that rob you of forgetting a wrong and rubbing all the hurt back in your face. What can you do?

forgive her

I don’t want to feel the misery that NOT forgiving others promises. It’s ugly. It pokes you when you least expect it and it festers if it’s not dealt with quickly.

forgave

My heart, your heart….. NEEDS the release that forgiveness holds.

Who needs your forgiveness today? Remember, forgiving them doesn’t excuse them. But, it does excuse you from the bitterness and broken heart.

birthday boy

It’s hard to post a picture of my hubby that shows him posing and smiling. Just scroll through any of my photos and you’ll see, he’s always doing something in my pictures. He’s either building something, fixing something or doing something in every shot. You’d think the guy never sits down.

On this day 49 long years ago, God gave a lumpy headed baby boy to a couple who had no idea just how special he would be to so many. I’d like to be first in line to say that because of him, my life has been full of love, foot rubs and never having to drive at night. Every day for the last 26+ years….he has tried to make all my dreams come true. But, I’m not the only person in his world that loves and adores him. To know my hubby, is to love him.

Honey,

I’m thankful God made you all those years ago. Now, hurry home and let’s celebrate that big birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
