It’s All About the Shoes

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

It’s fun having girls.  I love sharing clothes and shoes (not everything, don’t panic)!  I really love spending the day shopping with them and watching them make creative choices on a shoestring budget.  They are good, ya’ll!  Definitely a gene shared with mama!

Ally had to work today (TJ Maxx) running the dressing rooms.  Not always the most fun since you’re sort of stuck off by your lonesome in boresville!  But the Lord had a little entertainment planned for her while she suffered through.  A young mom was shopping with her toddler and baby.  The toddler wobbled over to the shoe section and with all her strength pulled down a pair of high heels.  From the looks of it (to Ally) she hadn’t been walking all that long.  She proudly tells her mama to “Look shoes!”.  Mama keeps shopping and answers, “Oh yea!”.  What happens next just blows Ally’s mind.  She takes off her shoes, lines up the high heels side-by-side and slips her tiny little socked footsies right in.  Ally got such a giggle out of it and just couldn’t believe a baby would be so fascinated at such a young age with girly shoes.

To that I say…..DUH, GIRL!  hehe!

Actually, I smiled at her and flashed back to all the times she and her sister slipped their little fat feet into my heels.  There’s just something about those things.  A girl sees everything in a pair of shoes.  From her outfit to where she’ll wear them…to who she’ll see and how they’ll SEE HER!  I knew from the get-go my girls were full-blooded prissy pants.  It just came natural.  Just like it did for little miss toddler girl today.  Girls love shoes.  And who cares if they hurt?  If they look good, they’re worth it!

When it came time to go, the mommy said, “Put the shoes back” and she picked both up with all her muscles and stretched to place them back on the rack.  What that mommy doesn’t know is that very soon she’ll have a bit more trouble getting her to part with them.  Right, moms?

The grow up so fast…

Operation Rescue

My house is totally protected when it comes to critters! In the 10 years that I’ve lived here, I can’t remember ever having to use a mousetrap to fight off any mousey intruders. I consider myself blessed thanks to my little kitty friends. They’ve all done a fabulous job of running predator security around the Gway house.

Which reminds me, I need to praise my furry feline’s more often! Meow! 😉

Currently, my kitty patrol squad has dwindled down to one sneaky girl. Her name is Helen. My next door neighbor allows her inside her house and calls her Lucy. (Umm, that’s another post in itself) We, however do not keep her inside since she is an OUTSIDE HUNTING cat and we all have terrible cat allergies.

I guess what I’m saying is that we really aren’t cat people. We just like to keep them around for work purposes. Thanks, Helen…you’re a great hunter!

Hubby and I were watching her on the prowl the other day when he felt compassion for the poor little critter she was chasing around. We usually just look away and let her do her thing. But this time it was different. The scared little chipmunk was spinning in circles and jumping around trying to dodge her swats when hubby scooped him up and saved his life.
Meet Little Mister

I’m not sure he knows that this was a rescue operation. What do you think?

It reminds me of my own need for protection. Oftentimes from myself. I manage to find trouble and stress easily without even trying. Thankfully, God never tires of rescuing me. Just when I need Him most he sweeps in and scoops me up….sheltering me from the deathly swats that life throws my way. I’m powerless against them (like Mister Chipmunk) without Him.

Today, watch out for opportunties to help someone who might need a bit of rescuing. You never know when it might be you needing it yourself.

Happy Hump Day!

Moth to the Flame

I don’t think I’ll ever learn.  Seriously.  I AM HARD-HEADED!  Never, never start your day out with a post like this on your Facebook status:

Looking for ways to honor HIM today. What about you?

Why?  Is that what you just said?  Because you will do nothing but face a challenge every time you turn a corner.  ALL THE LIVELONG DAY, PEOPLE!

What I thought was a great little saying actually followed me around everywhere I went today.  Oh I could easily blame it on the hormones….yea, they’re a ragin’!  But honestly, I have to give kuddos to the Holy Spirit for whispering in my ear reminding me I BELONG TO HIM!!

Monday automatically falls into the “boo” category in my book.  Goodbye lazy weekend, Hello duty laced workweek!   So just imagine my attitude this morning when that alarm (love ya, KLove) sang it’s praises in my ear.  I was not feelin’ it!  But I marched on, because I’m no quitter!  😉

Once at work, I made sure to be in the presence of every annoying student I could find.  Maybe I’m just a magnet for noisy dudes who like to drum their hands, fingers, books, pens, feet, hats…or whatever else they can bang on desks.  See, I told you I was her-moan-al?!  I felt a tad bit sensitive is what I’m saying and I’m ashamed to really confess it here.  Some might call it witchy.

I did manage to hide it.  No one picked up on my feelings of wanting to keel them with my bare hands.  Oh I kid!   You’ve heard of the evil eye, right?  Nevermind.  I’m joking.   Remember, I was looking for ways to HONOR HIM. My eyes were sparkling! 🙂

It was the highlight of my day when I pulled into my garage and spotted 2 boxes had been delivered for me.  I’ve been waiting patiently for my Lilly Pulitzer agenda to arrive.  It’s a replacement to the one I ordered last month (the one with a flawed page).  I had ordered a sweet Lilly tumbler too since I’d dropped my other cup and shattered it last year.

Both items had arrived! Yay!

The problem? When I opened the Lilly agenda box….it turned out to be a tiny little POCKET-SIZED book! The first one I received was double in size. I felt sick! The reason? I’d ordered a Large agenda a few weeks back for my girl Ally and when it came it was the same size as my SUPPOSED pocket-sized one. I called the company and explained THEIR error and the owner agreed to reinburse me the cost difference .

Yea, this stuff really does happen to me. Beware! You’ve been warned!

Surely you know where I’m heading right? Now…..now that I have placed the Honor Him challenge upon myself–I have to call the company back and admit my terrible mistake and give back the money (hubby says, it’s not been put back into my account) that I felt so confident was mine! Oh, man!

Why me?

Lord
Thank you for keeping me humble. While it’s painful to admit, I really do appreciate the way you trim and snip my branches.
Amen

On a HAPPY NOTE–I ordered my AWESOME LILLY cup from Purse Lady Too. Not only was it less than you can find anywhere else….it came with FREE SHIPPING! I ordered it on Friday night and received it today (Monday)!! Thank you PLT!!! I don’t want to whine about how long it took to get 2 agenda books (from other companies) and HOW MUCH THE STINKIN’ SHIPPING WAS!! No, I don’t want to tell you. Cause, this is a HAPPY NOTE!!

My Turn

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Since Friday was my wedding anniversary, I managed to strut around like I was extra special all day. There’s just something about a day like your anniversary or birthday that makes you feel a little hot-shoddy! Ya know? Maybe it’s just me.

It was a sweet blessing to find my hubby’s post of twenty-two reasons why he loves me on Friday too. I love how generous he was with his reasons. He thinks of things I never do (he’s so smart). I never get tired of hearing how or why he thinks I’m so awesome! {Thanks Honey}  I think I’ll shoot for another 22 years of true love….it’s been worth it!

Imagine my surprise when during my first period class these arrived.

While they weren’t a gift from my hubby, they were a creative gift to share amongst fellow staff FOR 30 MINUTES each. Pretty cool idea, huh? I thought so too. It was a neat way to advertise and share the Homecoming love with our whole school staff. So fun!   (More reasons to love Friday’s)

Seriously, how great is this? Thank you to Kelley’s Florist in North Vernon for blessing the staff at JCHS. What a great way to put a smile on the faces of so many with one little flower arrangement! 😉

I loved my turn!!

Twenty-Two Reasons I Love your Mother (Blog Hijacked by a Loving Husband)

Twenty – Two Reasons I Love Your Mother

Kids, I thought it would be a nice if I were to share with you a few of the many reasons that I love your mother! I also wanted to share these reasons with those who read her blog.

1. Mom is not pretentious. She may wish she was different in some areas, but she doesn’t pretend to be someone she is not.

2. Your mother is classy, and always has been. It comes to her as naturally as breathing.

3. I love your mom’s ability to be satisfied with less. At times, my inability to provide your mother with the thing many other women owned or enjoyed have been, for me, a rather painful source of regret. Never once in our married life has Mom complained about not having what others had, though she certainly deserved much more.

4. I just love the fact that Mom considers me her best friend! Rightly or wrongly, she hasn’t really pursued other friendships to the degree that other wives usually do.

5. Your Mother is an excellent administrator: I love that about her! She brings a level of organization that keeps everything running smoothly.

6. I love Mom for bringing our son, Gavin into the world; the world is a better place because of him!

7. I love Mom for bringing our daughter, Ally into the world; the world is a better place because of her!

8. I love Mom for bringing our daughter, Gates into the world; the world is a better place because of her!

9. I love your mother for the joy she has brought into my life over the twenty-two years of our marriage. Mom was, indeed, the wife of my youth that Proverbs 5 talks about.

10. I love how your mom is not daunted by large tasks of any kind: whether it’s 15 loads of laundry or painting a living room.

11. Mom has a loyalty to her family that only a mother could possess! It’s easy to love her for that.

12. I love watching your mom retell a story related to our marriage or engagement, or giving advice to people about romance. She allows her love for me to show on her face as she speaks. It can take my breath away.

13. I love your Mother’s eagerness to sit and dream with me about our future.

14. I love how Mom is willing to help me pull out of my periodic times of discouragement and malaise!

15. I love spending time alone with your Mother, I enjoy spending time with her.

16. I really love how your Mom loves spending time with me.

17. I love to see your Mother fully enjoying herself! Interestingly, some of the other qualities (responsibility, industry) that make me love your Mom actually work against her, making it rather difficult for her to stop everything and enjoy life. When Mom does, though, I love being there to see it!

18. I love looking into your Mother’s eyes during those special times of communication and connectedness; there’s nothing more wonderful as oneness of heart, soul, body, and mind!

19. I love your Mom for enjoying hearing me talk to her…

20. I love how your Mother’s care for all of you is like magnetic north—it will remain there, unchanged forever.

21. I love how your Mother will go out of her way to show love to me in a language she doesn’t naturally speak herself. I love how your Mom looks, and smells, and feels,… oohhh,… enough said!? Right Gates??

22. Most of all I love how you Mother loves the Lord with all her heart and has been willing to follow Him no matter where He led her.

Honey, I love you with all my heart. Thank you for a wonderful 22 years!

Back On The Juice

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

I’ve been off the Iced Coffee’s for a few months. After making my jug of awesome this summer, I stayed clear of it’s goodness for a long time. Not for any particular reason other than I just didn’t feel interested.

I decided last week to pick up some more coffee and set my little system back up for morning goodness. My only problem is that I’m such a crummy morning person that I don’t usually have time to make one to actually enjoy it. 🙁

Anyway, I’ve got “the goods” again. So, I’m back in business.

Looks good, huh?

PS–Happy Friday Eve. ya’ll! It’s been a loooong Homecoming week.
