Groupon Junkie

January 29th, 2016

Hello, my name is Queenie and I’m addicted to Groupon!

groupon

I love the place or is it even a place? Maybe just an app? Or in my case, a shopping extravaganza. The prices pull me in and the super cool businesses that participate get me all giddy. Like, I’m going to do this ZIP-LINE through the forest or FULL HOUR BODY MASSAGE for $35? HECK YEA! Sign me up!

Or….CLICK TO BUY!!

Right now, I have a few items in my Groupon account just waiting on me to use. See the problem?

I buy, then hoard.

Like a lady with a house-full of junk she doesn’t need….my Groupon list is getting to be a problem.

Here’s a glimpse of my current purchases. In my defense, the purchases are all legit needs. Massage (must have). Starbucks (absolutely, who doesn’t want to save $5?) Ultimate facial (I’m old, I need it!) Indianapolis newspaper (it’s full of sale ads, how else am I supposed to shop in my pjs?)…. And there may be a 2nd page of things I’ve bought but haven’t used yet. Don’t judge me!

I can’t help it. The deals, are a BIG DEAL!

I shouldn’t beat myself up over a few $$$ spent on Groupon deals. Groupon is how I found my Indy area hair-dresser (Tiffany). If I hadn’t called the number on the Groupon ad for highlights, I may still be a dark-haired old lady!

Thank you Groupon! I owe ya, buddy!

save it

Then during a pizza lunch at Costco yesterday, my hubby asked me how much MONEY could we save by summer (June)? Hmm, good question. DOES HE KNOW ABOUT MY GROUPON DEALS? Guess it’s time to buckle down, man.

No more CLICK TO BUY for me! I’m cleaning out my purchases and stacking up millions in my savings account. Ha!

What’s your favorite shopping habit? Are you hoarding some purchases too?

Ripped

January 27th, 2016

I should’ve known my day was going to go wonky when THE DONALD announced he wouldn’t be participating in Thursday night’s debate. I mean, how terrible…right?

I woke up at 4:38am after tossing and turning all night and couldn’t go back to sleep. What? What’s my biggest weakness? NOT GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP! It is right at the top of my list of things that CANNOT HAPPEN TO ME or else!

Yea, I feel refreshed!

I packed my stuff into a “borrowed” tote bag and took off for school. I needed a bag large enough to haul my laptop with me to school, so I borrowed one of my girls bags I found upstairs. As I got into my car…. I had a thought about how heavy the bag was and wondered if it could hold up to the heavy load.

Thanks to the weird darkness of 7:45 am right now, I couldn’t see very well on my country road drive to work. So, I squinted and blinked my way…praying no deer jumped out and really wrecked my day.

As I stepped out of my car in the school parking lot, the bag tore completely apart. The handle ripped off and I poured my water all over the front of my coat. Dandy. I knew it! Now, I not only need a new bag for myself…I owe the chick I borrowed from a new bag too. Luckily, it was a cheapo.

See what you’ve caused DONALD TRUMP!

Thanks man! I’m ripped!

HAPPY HALF-WAY THERE DAY

*blaming others for our problems never gets us anywhere. So, see where I’m stuck today? πŸ™‚

Can’t Take It Back

January 26th, 2016

There’s not a mom (or a person) alive that hasn’t said something they wish they could take back. Words spoken in anger or frustration can haunt for life….haunt the receiver and the giver.

words that hurt

I grew up with a lot of verbal abuse. It wasn’t much for my mom to lose her mind and spew some pretty hateful words my way. Some of them (most of them) have never left my head or heart. Words for her were ammunition and saying mean things was her weapon of choice. It never occurred to her that what she said left deep forever wounds. She just said what she thought and let the hearer deal with all the rest.

Hurting people…..hurt people.

I read a story this week about a mom who out of frustration….screamed at her daughter — “You’re just like your father!”. Now, for some that’s not a bad thing. But I think we all know that when something like that is said by an angry mom, it’s not meant as a compliment. Especially when it’s a divorced mom who harbors anger towards the ex-husband/father. Kids know, they know how we feel about EVERYONE! All the people, ever in our lives….our kids know.

Don’t tell me you believe your kids have no idea who you like and don’t like. Ha!

words all over

I’ve used words to hurt the ones I love the most too many times in my life. I regret the things I’ve said out of anger or even not feeling well. Think: hangry. Words, once spoken cannot be taken back only forgiven. Which means, they stay there….lingering on the soul and replaying in the mind.

Terrible thought, huh?

mind games

So, here’s my advice: WATCH WHAT YOU SAY!

If you are someone who uses sarcasm or smarty comments as part of your normal conversation, rethink it! Instead, hold back with the “funny” banter and just talk, minus any hurtful comments. Believe it or not, it’s a habit. The more you speak one way the easier it becomes to continue.

Saying things like:

You’re ridiculous!
You never…
You are just like ______!
I hate you!
I can’t take anymore!!
You’re driving me crazy!

not funny

Somebody somewhere is writing your words on their heart. Are you using them with love and care or are you pounding them into a heart broken and bruised?

Remember, you can’t take it back!

Hello Monday

Be Fruit Inspectors

January 20th, 2016

In 365 days America will swear in a brand new President. Who will it be? Will it be a big-mouth big-shot say-what-people-want-to-hear business guru? Or will it be a woman who can’t seem to see the importance of being honest or responsible for her shortcomings?

Or will Americans snap out of it and see these two humans for what they really are, baffoons?

Almost monthly, candidates are wrangling it out at the debates. Americans watch in anticipation of seeing who will deliver the best zingers or come out clearly leading the pack. Some of the debates have been downright ridiculous. From the hosts wacky loaded questions (that have nothing to do with real issues) to needless biting remarks back and forth between the candidates.

Americans deserve quality candidates to pick from.

Sadly, the choices at the top of the polls bother me. On both sides. It’s political mayhem, really. I blame the current status of leadership. Or lack thereof.

Turn on the tv and take a listen or pull up a blurb of news – you’ll find the finger-pointing President cowardly complaining about what’s wrong with America all while living the life of a megastar that jet-sets around on vacations and rubs elbows with all the WHO’S WHO. You know, because….he can! All while continuing to be a god-like figure to liberals everywhere.

Meanwhile, the conservative folks fight it out tearing one another a new one with every little poke and jab they can. Almost like a self-imploding gang of crazies! Anyone on the outside looking in can see the “right” thinking wannabees are blazing down a path of complete self-destruction.

We’re shooting our own party in the foot with this kind of clawing it out behavior.

Listen, I’m certain of who I believe is a true and viable candidate for the office of President. Yet, the ones with the biggest mouths and the most power seem to kick their way to the top…knocking the truly deserved ones out of the way.

I’ve watched, I’ve listened and I’ve paid attention to the actions of the Presidential hopefuls. I’ve read up, I’ve investigated accusations and I’ve sat quietly by while the media, friends and strangers voiced their opinions as to who THEY ARE VOTING FOR.

I’m not a follower. Not in any circumstance of my life do I follow what the pack is doing. I make my own decisions based on faith and character. Which is why I can’t believe Christians are so quick to jump on a particular candidates bandwagon when he clearly is not a person of the Christian faith.

It’s become pretty common in our country to slap religion in the face (unless of course, it’s the Muslim faith). In today’s world, holding to any religious values makes you appear a fool or out of date. I couldn’t disagree with that thinking more. Our need for God is beyond what our society can even comprehend. It’s time that we focus on electing GODLY leaders and stop searching for rockstars or power mongers.

America is great (thanks Donald Trump for saying so)! Our future is dependent upon the ones we select to make us greater! I’ve had it with wormy whiny fault-finding leaders. I’m sick to death of being laughed at by radicals and for my fellow citizens being targeted by ISIS murderers.

Aren’t you?

Before you jump up and down about WHO YOU’RE VOTING FOR – make sure that person isn’t just the one shouting the loudest at all the rallies. Take the time to learn important personal truths about that person. Don’t be a follower. Pave your own path to picking a person of quality to lead our country.

Inspect the fruit of their life.

Are they followers of Christ in name only?
Do they prove the need for a savior with their lifestyle?
Do they understand basic principles of faith?
Are they living a life worthy of calling themselves Christian?
Can you see God’s love in who they are?
Do they admittedly understand forgiveness and recognize they need it? To give it? And to ask for it?

Friends,
Our country is in deep trouble. Don’t go along just because the crowd is leaning one way and you don’t want to look silly. Vote with a heart of faith.

fear the lord

And pray. Picking a President is serious business and four to eight years is a long time to try again.

Is It Really That Cold?

January 19th, 2016

4 degree

I won’t beat around the frozen bush, it’s cold! Like, 10 degrees. When I woke up this morning it was a shivery 4 degrees outside. Schools all over Indiana were on a 2-hour delay, not mine.

What a sad state of reality, huh?

I labored on, I’m a dedicated substitute you guys. I’m no quitter! Unless I’m expected to work outside and then MAMA’S GOT ANOTHER PLAN! Can subs call in? πŸ™‚

It’s funny how the sun is shining bright right now but by tonight the snow will come crashing down to the tune of 3-5 inches.

I’m subbing 1/2 day tomorrow…..so, I’m sure if there is a delay (which I totally doubt) I’ll still be able to make it across my country road to school.

Dedication.
